After the Rain | ||||||||||||||
After the Rain is based on Christopher Wheeldon dance of the same name. Wheeldon created After the Rain for New York City Ballet’s 2005 New Combinations Evening, an annual celebration of the company’s founder George Balanchine What I love about this piece is its purity. Every element is so simple. It’s just you and your partner together on stage being totally in the moment. Like being alone with the canvas in my studio. It draws out a very honest performance from the dancers inhabiting the piece. It is haunting and serene all at once. Because the choreography is abstract and pure in movement. It seems to stir different feelings in people. It's almost as though everyone in the theatre has collectively woken from a dream.
