The Motion Series is the evolution of the focus of my work, my fascination with the expression of motion in 2-dimentions. Three separate, yet related groups of paintings, Fluid Motion, Static Motion, and Beyond Motion portray modern dance in diverse approaches.

Beyond Motion is the expression of movement examining the intersection between the 3-dimensional realm of modern dance from choreographers such as Christopher Wheeldon & Benjamin Millepied. And, the 2-dimensional expression of movement with colour, form and rippling texture reflecting the constant movement of the dancers.

Starting with the exploration of dance movements, first on stage, then in photographs. The movement is then translated into simple line drawings capturing the form of the movement. Refine and eventually those that survive through the evolution of colours, light & movement are merged with canvas and texture to capture and express the purity of the moment.

The paint is the subject. The texture the form. And, the movement the inspiration.
